Sumadia van der Watt...

Sumadia was born January 29, 1976 in Kleinmond, South Africa, a small, coastal town, southeast of Cape Town.  Sumadia, very early on, developed many passions.  She loved the ocean, all animals and especially tropical fish, at which she became a very skilled aquariast.  However, her first great passion in life was horses.

Sumadia started training and riding horses at a very early age.  She excelled in all her classes as a child and before and after school, she found time to be with them.  She started competing at shows and won many awards for riding and presentation.

Stellenbosh University in South Africa was where she furthered her education, studying travel and viticulture.  At the same time, she continued to train and ride, becoming very skilled.  She loved South African wines and became an expert at tasting and identifying various types of wines.  After finishing college, she competed in the National Championships and received Western Province Colors showing Boerperd (South African National Show Horse) in South Africa.

In 1998, Sumadia's love for horses and interest in travel and foreign culture led her to Kentucky to pursue her dream as a horse trainer.  She gained valuable knowledge her first few years here working for Silverbrook Stables.  She then furthered her skills at Koller Farms in Simpsonville, Kentucky where she trained and showed horses for the Saddlebred World Championships.

She continued to work very hard, each and everyday of her life and became an excellent trainer and rider.  She loved to laugh, smile and spend time with her many friends who looked to her for guidance and inspiration.  She left this world on October 6, 2001.

Sumadia will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.  She was a faithful Christian and the greatest thing in my life.  I will love her and miss her forever.

A few days after her passing, my nephew told me that he thought she was an angel and that God just needed her back ...I think he must have been right.

    -I love you Sumadia.
